Respiratory Review Session Notes

You know I've got a lot of free time in class when my notes look like this...

Asthma:

It begins with a picture of bronchoscopy
And leads to electron microscopy.
Bonchi filled with mucous and smooth muscles long and thick
Constricting the airway into a tube as small as a pick.

Pulmonary flow volume loops and P-V curves depict
That our asthmatic patient is very, very sick.
Obstructive disease is what it’s called throughout
Making it tough for us to breathe out.

FEV1.0 values are aided with bronchodilators.
These medical apparati help expiration as facilitators.
Closing volume means that our airways shut at a higher lung volume
Choking us and leaving our lungs with more room.

Not to be confused with choking points that depict dynamic air flow,
Dependent on how effort dependant and independent flows go.
Diffusing capacity increases because of two reasons:
Increasing perfusion and lung ventilation in certain lung portions.
